Dr M.A. Coccia-Portugal leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a pioneering breast cancer specialist in Pretoria, South Africa, whose vision and compassion shaped the foundation of the Breast Care Centre. With a deep commitment to patient-centred care, she established a multidisciplinary space where women could receive comprehensive, world-class treatment in an environment defined by empathy and dignity. Throughout her career, she guided countless patients through every stage of their journey—from diagnosis to recovery—while championing advancements in personalised oncology and contributing to the evolution of modern breast cancer care. Though now retired, her influence continues to live on in the ethos of the centre: that every patient is seen, supported, and treated with unwavering compassion and excellence.
